We left off from the Tour de Delta and headed to Vancouver for Gastown, then
on to Burnaby, finishing of with Tour of White Rock, where we would be
defending our title held by Matt Shriver.

Gastown was super hard and we all worked well to try and get Ev up for the
win. He managed a 4th, just off the podium, but an impressive result non
the less, with the likes of Chris Horner in the field!

Burnaby was our next stop, and after having two bags stolen out of our
rental van, including passports, cycling shoes and laptops, our morale was a
little low. We rallied and made amends of our misfortune by placing Matt
Shriver, Trent Wilson and Tim Henry in multiple early break aways. Jared
was able to get away in a move that stuck ’til 3 laps to go, where Cody and
Evan took over with Cody helping Evan out in the run to the finish. A
slight mis-judgement coming into the hectic last two corners left us
wanting, Evan was able to take 6th and Cody 11th.

Next up was White Rock, a 3 day stage race run an a points based Omnium
system. As the defending team, with Matt Shriver, we were all gee-ed up to
put in a solid performance. Matt started off his defence well placing 3rd
in the uphill TT prologue. With teams such as Symmetrics, Bissel, Health
Net, BMC, and Astana rider Chris Horner the Jittery Joe’s team had our work
cut out for us. The criterium was up next and it was quite fast with an
uphill/downhill lap which we had to do 60 times. Groups would go off the
front and come back more than a dozen times over the course of the race. As
we came down to 5 laps to go it was all together and a bunch sprint looked
imminent. Evan was helping Stevenson out in the finish in a role reversal
of the past two races. As we came to the last two corners, Elken was
squeezed out forcing Stevenson to take the long way around. Fortunately,
Shriver was able to take advantage and slip up the inside. Horner and
Pinfold almost came together in the last corner in an exciting finish,
Shriver was able to take 4th and Stevenson was 5th. Henry, Barrilleaux and
Wilson all performed well for the team, getting into break aways and taking
primes. To finish up we had the road race, a difficult circuit race taking
on two climbs per lap, including one very steep pitch of around 15%. A
break of 4 riders got away after about 20km of the 140km road race. With a
chaotic and attacking peloton, Trent Wilson, using his experience from his
European racing background, including 2 Giro d’Italia finishes, captained
the Jittery Joe’s team admirably. Wilson and Stevenson began to set tempo
on the front to keep the gap at around 2 minutes, and control the race for
our man Matt Shriver. Wohlberg and Sherstabitoff from Symmetrics were also
added to the mix. Over the next 80km we managed to bring the break back to
30 seconds. Elkan, Henry and Barrilleaux were to sit tight and help Shriver
in the last 40km. Horner attacked on the steep climb with around 30km to
go. Stevenson and Wilson pulled off as Shriver clung to the wheel of the
Astana rider and top 15 finisher in the ‘07 Tour de France. They were then
joined by Pinfold, the fastest of the three in a sprint. The top three
riders on the Overall classification were now alone at the front of the
group with an advantage that would take them to the finish, Mano a Mano.
Shriver knew that he had to get rid of Pinfold if he was to take the overall
victory. On the last lap Horner attacked the other two and Shriver put in a
gallant effort to go with him. As they came through with 1k to go Horner
had pulled away, but importantly, Shriver had gapped himself from the faster
sprinter, Pinfold. Horner took the stage, Shriver took 2nd and with it
enough points to take the overall title for a second successive year!

It was a fantastic TEAM effort culminating in a fine performance by Shriver.
The whole week the Jittery Joe’s riders were working well together and White
Rock was an affirmation of the calibre of the riders, camaraderie, and
leadership. The team of Wilson, Shriver, Stevenson, Elken, Barrilleaux and
Henry all performed well with every rider either making the break away
groups, cashing in on primes, or taking top 5 results, including 3 podium
placings and an overall victory.

Not a bad week of racing for the Jittery Joe’s boys!
