Charlotte NC Weekend

tommy The past weekend has seen the Jittery Joe’s team racing in North Carolina. Friday night kicked off with a warm up race, the Statesville criterium. Many riders use this to fine tune their good form, leading into the biggest crit of the year, the Presbyterian Bank, Charlotte criterium. The race ended up having a four man break to decide the podium placings, with our representative, Tim Henry catching the group napping with a lap to go, and ended up soloing in for the win, with enough time to sit up, zip up the jersey, and salute the crowd! A great start to the weekend for the bean team!

Saturday night brought the big crowds, and everyone in the team brought their own fans too! Thad Dulin, our Georgia Cup series leader, grabbed all the media attention for the first 10 laps, with his breakaway, accompanied by just one other rider. Thad scooped up a good bunch of the nice primes during his time out front, and also got to hone some of his time trialling skills too! The following break contained Trent ‘Willo’ Wilson, who spent a great deal of time out front with two companions, scooping up more primes, and getting the Jittery Joe’s name out there, loud and clear! Unfortunately, the field saw the move as a threat, and decided to put an end to it. Nearing the final laps, we tried to set Lightnin’ Jeff Hopkins up for the gallop, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get it together to snag a great result.

Sunday was the Hanes Park criterium, another NRC crit. It was stinking hot, and we luckily got to race in the heat of the day! It was very hard in the heat, and backing up from the tough night of racing in Charlotte. Thad was again patrolling everything up front for the first half, keeping breaks in check. The last few laps, we got the Jittery Joe’s train on the front, and brought back the last of the breakaway attempts, to set up a field sprint for Hoppy. We got him to the last corner in second wheel, and he held that all the way to the line! A great result for Jeff and the team, and nice to have a second podium finish for the weekend!

See you out there, Tommy
