Back to Cali
Filed Under Rider Diaries | Posted by Neil |
Well I’m back in sunny San Diego after an eventful Triple Crown series and Tour de Beauce. It’s good to be back in a town where the stop signs say STOP instead of ARRÊT.
I felt a bit like I was in Europe in Quebec City with the old walls and interesting architecture. The weather here has been awesome, if a little hot. I am looking forward to Peter Hatton coming to stay for a few weeks of training before the Cascade Classic. We’ll be putting in some quality riding taking advantage of the great riding in the area. Pete will be my secret weapon on the local group rides. When Peter and I aren’t riding, my wife and I are looking forward to showing Pete what life in So Cal is like in the summer. Maybe we’ll catch a Padres game at the relatively new Petco Park, check out some cow roping and eat deep-fried Twinkies at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, hang out on the beach, eat a ton of Mexican food and catch some fireworks displays for the 4th of July. I can’t wait to introduce Hatto to real Mexican food like carne asada burritos and authentic guacamole. Hopefully it won’t crack Hatto that it has been in the mid 90’s all week and our house has no air conditioning. Also, we get ZERO channels on our TV. That’s right… no cable, no local channels, nothing. The usual question we get after a few seconds of incredulous looks is what we do all day, followed quickly by offers of giving us a spare TV. I guess in this day and age life without a TV in unimaginable to most people.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to a strong second half of the season.ShirlesComments

Neil,
Just saw the results of US Pro. I’m sure you’ll get lots of congrats, but I am very stoked for you. Couldn’t go to a more deserving rider! Just glad I had the honor of racing with you in your last tune-up at Univeristy RR. Way to go!
