Tour de Beauce
Filed Under Race Reports | Posted by Pete |
Bonjour,This last week the team has been up in the land of French Canadians, a place they call Quebec. We were racing the Tour de Beauce, a 6 day stage race over rough, hilly roads and the race centre was in a mediuam town called Saint George. We were meant to have an 7 man squad for the race but unfortunately Marc couldn’t make it up at the last minute and then the team took another blow on the first stage when the Hulk Evan found a large hole at 50km/h that his front wheel decided to call home, it stayed there but the fork snapped and hulk and Ev and the rest of his bike kept going. Phil must of thought it looked like fun so he piled in behind Evan and they both ended up a bit of a mess. Somehow they finished the stage but were unable to continue the 2nd day due to injuries. Trent rolled in for top 15, Austin, Neil and I were somewhere behind that.
Day 2 started with just 4 of us, and it was tough 180km Most of us were struggling still with the aftermath of 260km in the legs from Philly a few days ago plus the travel, well atleast Neil and I were and we found ourselves in the groupetto 15mins down by the end of the stage. Austin was riding like a Trojan and im pretty sure Trent finished up there.
Day 3 was a shorter 150km, but a nice mountain top finish at the end to sort things out. Of course a hard day again and I was starting to come around again, Austin Trent and I all in the front group at the base of the climb. Trent got 9th.
Day 4 was a short undulating15km time trial in the morning and a crit in the evening. I ran 7th and Trent was 12th. It was a tough break for Neil who was time cut, but his forms coming back come around and he’d been a great help in the race.
In the evening criterium Trent and Austin rode like maniacs, both of them in the winning 10 man break, they attacked hard but no one would let them have it and in the sprint Trent was 5th and Austin 10th.
The second last day was a circuit race through Quebec City, 10 laps and a short but very steep climb each lap made destroyed the field and the usual breakaway was caught with a bout 2km to go, at about 500m with a slight uphill before a downhill finish I stepped out for the long shot but a couple of guys just got past and I ran in for a tight 3rd place. Trent was 10th or so, and Austin had been doing some great work all day to get trent and I up the front for the climb each lap.
The final day was another circuit race, with a decent mile long climb in it. Unfortunately We missed the winning break and after a couple of unsuccessful late attacks, Trent and I to make top 20 on the day and thanks to Austin for his leadouts again.
Trent finished 13th overall and Austin 23rd. 140 riders started this race and there were only 66 finishers.
That’s all, thanks.
Peter.
